You can join forums to promote your website. This is a good way to build traffic to your website but you want to be discreet about your intentions. If you join a forum related to you website you want to appear as someone there to help others and to participate as a normal forum member. If you come on too strong or simply start promoting your website from day one, you may be asked not to participate. But when you go in with the sincere purpose to help others you will be all right.
