Let’s start with some bad news: if you have spent any time at all in affiliate marketing sales, then someone has sold you on the SECRET. This is the idea that someone out there knows the secret to make you rich. Sorry folks— there is no secret, and there never has been. The best way to earn money as an affiliate is as old as time itself. Here are three tips to help you get the right mindset to succeed in affiliate marketing.
1. Remember why you are doing this.
Building any business, online or offline, is a pain in the neck. No one is going to hand you success on a plate. Every dollar has to be earned with sweat and toil, and there are always— ALWAYS— obstacles!
Your kid gets sick, or messes up in school, and you have to tend to that.
Your boss (because you still have one) is giving you a hard time over something that isn’t even your fault.
Your bank is calling time on a loan. (Happens all too often nowadays, I’m afraid.)
What keeps us moving forward in the face of such opposition?
Is it money? I do not believe that any sane person is really that driven by thoughts of piles of money in a bank vault.
What motivates is not money, as such, but what money can do for us.
Why are you doing this? Is it to retire from your job? Is it so you can do something important for your family? Is it just so you can look yourself in the mirror and say “I did that”?
Think this one out. Find your “reason why”. This is important. Take the time to know WHY you are in business.
You will quit in a month if you do not have a sufficiently powerful WHY.
2. Remember your goal, and how you were going to get there.
I remember well my first attempts at earning money online. The whole project was so complex, and posed so many huge challenges for me, that I forgot what the end result was supposed to be.
I told myself that I had so much going (at least on paper) that surely I had cracked this business, and that I had truly stumbled upon the best way to earn money on the net!
I spend nearly an entire year on my project, and wasted months trying to figure out far too much on my own. After all that, what did I have to justify all that work?
Quite simply, I had a money-sucking mess.
Don’t do what I did. Just don’t bother.

Your business and your business plan are not the same thing.
A business is built by following a business plan. The business is the end goal. The business plan is the plan for getting there.
Keep things simple. Can you draw out your business and your business plan on a sheet of paper? You should be able to! If not, you are probably already making it more complicated than it needs to be.
Can you explain your business and your business plan to a bright twelve-year-old? Try it. If you can’t, something’s wrong.

3. Remember to roll up your sleeves.

The gurus who are selling you the BIG SECRET for $97.00, and who then say to you that the REAL secret is just around the corner, and can be had for an additional 37 bucks, are playing to our laziness.
Everyone wants something with as little pain and inconvenience as possible.
Success in any business, whether it’s affiliate marketing or just selling newspapers, is not going to find us. We have to find IT.
Ands… that’s it. The secret, if ever there was one, is in front of our noses.
Success in affiliate marketing sales will come to you ONLY when you know “why”, when you have a simple plan, and the will to see it to the end. This is not the best way to earn money, it’s the ONLY way. Or do we want to keep deluding ourselves, and keep the “gurus” rich?!
